Dear Applicant,

I am delighted to welcome you to Stockport. Thank you for your interest in our Director of Finance role. Stockport is a truly inspiring and ambitious place.  We are passionate about making a difference to the lives of our residents, creating opportunities for all, and supporting colleagues.  With partners we have set out a 15 year vision in our One Stockport One Future plan, which outlines the five big things that will transform our borough.

Stockport Council is brilliant council and a great place to work. Our recent Corporate Peer Challenge recognised us as “an impressive organisation”.  It  highlighted our strength of relationships between our officers and our elected members, as well as our robust financial management, with a strong level of reserves and a track record of delivering savings.

Our people are our most important asset and we are a values driven organisation. We feel that it is hugely important to support our colleagues in their development and growth. Wellbeing is a strategic priority and we have 80 wellbeing champions across the organisation. We are committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and are working closely with our colleague networks to  drive improvements.

You will be joining a talented Corporate Leadership Team. We were named Senior Leadership Team of the Year by the MJ in the summer, recognising our high level of collaboration, proven track record of delivery and support for each other. We recognise that public sector finances pose a significant challenge but we take a one team approach in addressing these. Our current Chief Executive was our previous Treasurer, so you will be supported bringing the appropriate level of rigour when making difficult decisions on behalf of the Council.

We are an ambitious council and are leading the way nationally on regeneration. Finance plays a key role in enabling these projects to be funded and completed for the betterment of our town. Likewise, we have strong partnerships in place through our One Stockport approach, and play a key role in Greater Manchester.

I am looking forward to reading your application, and learning about your unique ideas to bring opportunities into Stockport, and help us continue to grow and develop, providing ambition to everyone. I wish you the very best of luck in your application.

Kind regards,

Kathryn Rees
